Developing easy to read formats for people with intellectual disabilities

Erasmus+ KA2 - Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices

Welcome to the project Puzzle!

This Project aims to facilitate access to information, education and training of young people and adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) in European countries. Project Puzzle’s focus is on sharing ‘Easy to Read’ approaches to producing information and on developing further ways, using digital technologies, to improve communication with, for and by people with intellectual disabilities.

The "easy to read" method facilitates the transformation of text into forms that are easily understandable by people with limited capabilities in reading. The use of this method is integrated in environments designed specifically for people with limited reading comprehension capabilities.

To assist access to information for people with ID the Puzzle partnership has focused activity on the development of:

  • Resources: Instructions and guidance materials, session plans and training courses on various ways to make information accessible and relevant for people with ID using digital and participatory approaches.
  • Examples of accessible information on human rights and independent living skills, created by professionals and their students with ID in Lithuania, Greece, Poland and the UK using project Puzzle’s ‘Easy to Read & Understand’ methods.

We invite you to read About Project Puzzle and share our research, our training and our learning. The Puzzle partners invite you to take a look at some of the Examples of Easy to Understand information on Human Rights that we have made on the project. We want you to use our Resources to learn new ways to make information accessible in collaboration with the people with ID that you work with. We want you to Contact us with your ideas and experiences, to add to our collection of Links to other useful materials and Get involved by sharing your own thoughts and experiences on ways to make information more inclusive as well as your own Easy to Understand techniques and the new Easy to Understand materials that you co-produce with your learners.
