Self-Advocates
The Symposium featured presentations by self-advocates from the UK alongside our invited guests from across Europe, who contributed to the programme.
The UK self-advocates who came to the Symposium work as information producers in both a professional and a voluntary capacity. Adults with ID from organisations including Mencap and Enable shared examples of the easy to understand material that they have produced. They talked about their experiences of making accessible information in various media formats. This group demonstrated the feasibility of a future in which people with ID increasingly contribute their Easy to Read expertise as part of paid employment.
